3. Shangri-la
The
closer your breathing speed comes to your natural sleep breathing
speed, the better!
1) Make
sure that you are completely comfortable with each section prior
to going on to the next one.
2) If you
are not living alone, select a time and a place where and when
you will not be bothered, and hang a "DO NOT DISTURB"
sign on the door when practicing.
3) A physical
trigger is required for best results, so I am suggesting
that you place the thumb of your less dominant hand between
the first two fingers of that hand and form a fist, with the
thumb protruding and Squeeze down on that thumb & release
each time you take a downward step.
Count
down to your private place
The purpose
of this exercise, is to enable you to contact and enter your
subconscious mind, for any information you have experienced,
but may have forgotten. Because, this part of your mind never
forgets, unless it has been injured. It is your personal "hard
drive"!
With this
in mind, we are going to go down a set of 10 steps. There are
hand railings on both sides of the stairwell to hold on to.
Every time
I take a downward step, I go deeper and deeper into relaxation.
With each downward step, take a deep breath squeeze your thumb,
and say these words.
One,
I am going to relax a little every time I take a step. Every
muscle, tendon and ligament in my body is going to relax with
each step.
Two, Every
breath that I take, I will relax some more.
Three, Deeper
and deeper I go into relaxation. Every muscle is relaxing.
Four, More
and more relaxed now, and more and peaceful and contented.
Five, Every
muscle is relaxing with every breath that I take.
Six, More
and more relaxed as I go deeper and deeper into relaxation.
Seven, Every
tendon and ligament is relaxing.
Eight, More
and more relaxed, as I get to the bottom.
Nine, Almost
at the bottom of the stairs, and almost totally relaxed.
Ten, In
front of you, you will see a "purple" door.
The key
to the door is located in the palm of your _self hand.
Open your
hand and place it on the door, and the door will open.
As you pass
through the doorway, the door will close behind you, and you
will imagine yourself in nice b_self room. It has a large TV
or movie screen on the wall, which is the only thing that has
to remain there.
It can be moved or changed, but must remain in the room.
Now, start
decorating the room to suit yourself!
A nice easy chair with remote controls on one arm facing the
TV screen. Add a desk, 2 computers, filing cabinets, a picture
window, and what ever else you want.
It's your room! You can change things around whenever you want
to.
One computer
will "house" your medical advisor, the other one,
can be a spiritual, psychological, or what ever you want.
On the screen
in front of you lives your "inner" self. Your subconscious
mind, which is represented by a picture of yourself when you
were about 6 or years old. This young little person is that
part of you that keeps your body functioning. Doing all the
things you take for granted. Such as breathing, feeding the
cells, distributing food and oxygen, cleaning arteries and veins.
This "little
person" represents the unused 90% of your mind.
Chances are, you have not communicated with this part of yourself
for many years. So it will take time to establish a meaningful
relationship with this other part of you.
Lets start
with giving him or her a name. Perhaps a nickname that you as
a child was given by some member of your family or childhood
friend.
Some name that has some significance to you. This constitutes
acknowledgment, and acceptance.
The next
step, is to make imaginary physical contact with part of yourself.
Visualize
this little "you" either from memory, or from a picture
of yourself when you were about 6 or 7 years old. Now, in your
minds eye, go up and give this "little you" a great
big hug. Notice how good you feel. Don't worry, nobody is watching.
You two are alone.
Always remember you are a magician in your own mind!
It is a
good idea to keep this process to yourself, because other folks
might make fun of this whole idea. This could stop you from
doing it, thereby depriving yourself of the many benefits that
can be yours.
This "little
person" represents your "subconscious" mind,
which if not Injured, remembers everything you ever experienced
in your lifetime.
Remember, your subconscious mind thinks in images.
He, or she represents your personal "hard drive".
In as much
as this "inner you" is the source of your intuition.
Once you believe that you may have picked an appropriate name,
you can address him/her by name, and ask if that name is acceptable.
If it "feels" _self, you can continue using it on
a temporary basis.
Suppose
you want to talk to your "Spiritual Advisor", or your
"Medical Advisor". In your minds eye, visualize (pretend)
with your eyes closed, to see this individual as being on the
screen in front of you, just like you used to do as a kid. Now
ask for guidance. Enjoy!
Here are
a couple of examples.
Suppose I have misplaced my keys. I say,
"George", where are my keys?"
Rather than fussing about it, I thank him and busy myself with
something else which gives "George" time to answer
as well as giving me a chance to "listen". When the
answer comes, I say "Thank you", again.
Or if I
have walked from one room to another to do something, and have
forgotten why I went in there, I can either ask "George",
or I can "walk my mind" back to where I started from,
and the original thought will resurface. I do not physically
walk back, because that changes the the process.
From now on, it is merely a matter of practice and experimenting
