Food Management

Small meals

When your body has been compromised by illness, such as with Parkinson’s Disease, it is no longer able to work as efficiently as it once did. So, it is necessary that a person make life as easy for their body as they possibly can. One of the ways that a person can help is to eat smaller meals, more often. Become a "snacker"!

A HIGH OCTANE SNACKER

It is far better to eat 6 small "high octane food" meals a day, than the usual 3 big ones in addition to a bunch of "trash" snacks along the way. You see, if you only eat small meals, your stomach size will gradually shrink, so that any amount of food over your regular portion, will make you feel stuffed! So I eat all my fruit, veggies, being careful to spread out my "protein" in the first 3 meals of the day. I find that animal protein is best consumed in the midday, so that my system has a chance to process it before nightfall. I find that cutting or grinding up my meat into tiny bits, allows my stomach to digest it better. It’s like "baby food" all over again. I use ground up nuts and seeds with every meal except at night. My late night snack, is fruit and grapes in Jello. This gives me fruit, protein, and water. There is no great work for my body to do while I am sleeping except repair itself with the energy it gets from the Jello. If you eat small meals you will have a small appetite and stomach. I try to limit bread to 2 slices per day, as I find it constipating.
